A 'BURGAUTE' LACQUER SNUFF BOTTLE
Japanese made for the Chinese market, late 19th century
Of shield form decorated on each side with two roundels depicting flower arrangements.
Laque Burgaute is a French term describing a lacquer technique with inlaid designs using small shapes of iridescent blue-green shell and gold and silver. Snuff bottles decorated with this technique were usually made in Japan for the Chinese market.
