AN ARCHAIC BRONZE CENSER, BOSHANLU
Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD)
Of conical form raised on a stem-foot decorated in openwork with facing chi dragons, the cover also decorated in openwork to form a mountain with human figures and various animals including tigers and bears. The surface is overall covered with a green patina.
Height 6 3/4 in. (17 cm.)
The censer depicts Mount Penglai, which is the central mountain in the Daoist Paradise.
