A BRONZE FIGURE OF XI WANG-MU
Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644)
The figure is seated on a wooden base, her hands together over her chest. She wears an elaborate garment and jewelry, and a large headrest forming a phoenix.
Height 13 1/4 in. (33.5 cm.) including wooden base
The phoenix headrest suggests that the figure is Xi Wang-mu, the Royal Mother of the West and the personification of the feminine element yin. She is also often depicted riding a phoenix as she goes to the party of the Immortals.
