A CARVED OPAQUE YELLOW GLASS BOWL
Qing dynasty, Qianlong mark and period (1736-1795)
this bowl with fairly thin walls that expand outward, then gently rise and culminate in a thickened rim is carved in high relief with a continuous design of military action and includes two horsemen about to stab an enemy with a halberd.
This scene of military action is similar to the ones that appear on the wall of a well-known red overlay vase in the collection of the Corning Glass Museum (see Claudia Brown and Donald Rabiner, "Clear as Crystal, Red as Flame: Later Chinese Glass", China Institute of America, 1990, page 83, cat # 49) and on a massive transparent purple glass bowl (see Jana Volf, "Treasures of Chinese Glass Work Shops", Asiantiques, 1997, page 44, cat # 29).
