FOUR-CASE LACQUER INRO by KOMA KANSAI

Edo period (19th century)

The four-case gold ground lacquer inro is decorated in various lacquer techniques and colors including takamaki-e, hiramaki-e, kirikane, and togidashi-e on the reverse. The front of the inro depicts Rosei sleeping on the magical pillow while the reverse depicts an image of his dream, an Imperial embassy which takes him to the see the Emperor. The fan of Rosei is inlaid with aogai. The risers and interior of the cases are decorated with a dense nashiji ground and fundame rims.
