A SHIBAYAMA INLAID IVORY MANJU

Signed Soichi Shibayama, Edo to Meiji Period (19th century)

The two-part manju of the usual form is inlaid with mother-of-pearl, coral, stained and dark horn, and decorated with three roundels with different birds, flowers and foliage. Signed 'Soichi Shibayama' on on a mother-of-pearl tablet inlaid on the back.

1 7/8 in. (4.5 cm.) diameter

Condition: good, with a small piece of inlay missing and minute chipping on the rim.
