An ivory netsuke of Okame

Unsigned, Edo Period - 19th century
Height: 2 1/8 in. (5.2cm.)

A humorous representation of Okame seated and wearing only a cloth around her waist and obscured by her large belly. She stretches her arms over her head and her mouth is wide open in a yawn. The pose is actually the one of Daruma waking up from his seven years of meditation. The himotoshi is formed by a large hole on the bottom and a small hole on the back.
