A YELLOW-GROUND "FAMILLE ROSE" BOTTLE VASE
Qing Dynasty (19th century)
The compressed globular body rests on a straight foot enamelled with a triangular motif; the straight neck bears a pair of archaic-looking handles enamelled in pink.
The entire vase is decorated with a profusion of scrolls over a yellow ground of a slightly mustard tone.
The main design consists of lotus flowers flanked by pink kui dragons emanating a substance from their mouths. The design is repeated with variations on the neck of the large vase.
The base is glazed white, and it is marked in underglaze blue with a hall mark whose first character is "yu" or "imperial command".
The tone of the white glaze is very typical of the "dead white" glaze characteristic of the Daoguang period.
