A SUPERB GE-STYLE CENSER
Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period (1736-1795)
This heavily potted censer-form container, with handles resembling either elephant trunks or bird beaks, holding moulded rings, has a brown stained cracquelure all over, while the piece itself is glazed in a subtle and striking icy, light blue color which is purposely not uniform throughout.
The stained, crackled glaze continues inside the censer, but in a tighter mesh.
The foot is flat and dressed in dark brown, copying the style of the Song period. Within the foot, the slightly sunken base is covered in a tight cracquelure stained in a mushroom tone.
Both the handles and the base indicate a Qianlong date, as well as the tribute to the Song period.
