A RU-STYLE SHALLOW BOWL WITH ORIGINAL METAL RIM
Southern Song Dynasty, probably Longquan kilns (1127-1279)
A very elegant shallow bowl with a small foot, incised on the outside with lotus petals, with the rim bound in copper, and the interior left plain.
The bowl is covered for the most part by a thin and restrained layer of light blue glaze, to match the color of extant Ru ware, and it succeeds in re-creating the Ru glaze rather well. The unglazed foot has burned to an orange brown in the kiln. The Longquan origin of the piece is suggested by the thicker glaze on the outside of the bowl near the rim, and by the type of foot an paste.
