A FINE SONG DYNASTY JUN PLATE
Song Dynasty (960-1279)
A very fine plate with a Jun glaze of blue and green colors that mingle in the front and back, thinning at the edges to a mushroom tone. The small foot is dressed in brown, and the base inside the foot is glazed as well. There are a few impurities on the glaze that resulted as an accident during firing. The crackled glaze is very smooth and lustrous. There are some areas with a transparent film --as a result of prolonged burial-- that have resisted removal.
There are similar plates in the literature from the Northern Song or Jin Dynasty, but these exhibit a larger foot, reason why this plate might be from the Southern Song period.
