A LARGE IMITATION GE SHALLOW BOWL
Qing Dynasty (probably 18th century)
Extant pieces of Ge ware of the Song to Yuan Dynasty are very rare, and the potters of the Qing Dynasty copied this legendary ware as a sign of admiration and respect. The height of this trend took place during the reign of the Qianlong emperor, reason why it is more than likely that this piece dates to that period.
This large plate or shallow bowl shows all over the "golden thread and iron wire" crackles of one type of Ge ware, and the spur marks used seen in a few of the extant pieces of original Ge ware, although here the spur marks are done in a brown dressing, and were not used to fire the piece. The foot is dressed in brown as well, to further copy the traits of the Song to Yuan period.
