A WHITE AND BLACK JADE CARVING
Qing Dynasty (18th century)
The thin and tall section of jade is carved to depict a reclining deer with pair of peaches in its mouth, resting in the shade of large branch of Lingzhi, a small section of back jade carved through to depict a bat. Together with a finely carved fitted stand.
This lovely jade carving is full of Chinese auspicious symbols wishing its owner a long life and good fortune. The deer, lingzhi and peach are all symbols of longevity while the bat is symbol of good fortune. Deer in Chinese resemble phonetically to the word 'wealth' as well, and may be interpreted as a sign of good fortune.
