A MAGNIFICENT TWO-FOLD SHIBAYAMA LACQUER TABLE SCREEN
Meiji Period (late 19th century)
Inlaid with ivory, mother-of-pearl and various semi-precious stones and metals, the left panel depicting two craftsmen looking at a beautiful woman passing by on the right panel. The remains of the panels are elaborately decorated with various flower arrangements, and set within an ivory frame with silver fittings. The reverse is decorated in togidashi-e lacquer with quails among autumn plants on a roironuri background.
