Beijing Palace Workshops, Qianlong period, 乾隆 1736–1795
White nephrite, of elongated shield form with a flaring neck and carved with double-loop handles on either side with a suspension cord ending with a small arrow-shape jade of russet color, the narrow base concave, each side similarly carved in low-relief with a stylized archaistic mask.
This fine bottle displays all the characteristics that would qualify a bottle as imperial: flawless white jade and a delicate form with archaistic design, attributes that were in fashion at the Qianlong court. For a similar bottle, see Hugh Moss, Victor Graham and Ka Bo Tsang, A Treasury of Chinese Snuff Bottles: The Mary and George Bloch Collection (Hong Kong: 1998), vol. 1 Jade, cat. no.83.
