1750–1820
Light greenish-white nephrite, of flattened form with a flaring neck, carved all-over with a basket-weave pattern finished by a rope above the shoulder, the concave foot continuing the basket-weave pattern.
The bottle displays a consistent light celadon color throughout, with small inclusions on the foot and the shoulder. This example is nonetheless a very good one of this group of bottles, displaying fine and consistent carving and with the refinement of a rope carved around the neck, which is not always present on other bottles of the same style. For similar examples, see Hugh Moss, Victor Graham and Ka Bo Tsang, A Treasury of Chinese Snuff Bottles: The Mary and George Bloch Collection, (Hong Kong: 1998), vol. 1 Jade, cat. no. 149. Another example is illustrated in Humphrey K. F. Hui and Peter Y. K. Lam, The Imperial Connection: Court Related Chinese Snuff Bottles from the Humphrey K. F. Hui Collection (Hong Kong: 1998), cat. no. 65. The authors write that the basket-weave pattern was a "popular pattern adopted by the Imperial Court."
