A RED OVERLAY GLASS SNUFF BOTTLE

Probably Beijing Palace Workshops, Qianlong period, 乾隆 1736–1795

Ruby-red glass overlay on a snowflake ground carved on one side with a crane, lingzhi, a peach tree and rockwork within an oval panel, and a bat, lingzhi, flowers and rockwork on the other side, five characters in archaic script carved on each shoulder:
福如海天长 Fortune as expansive as the sea
寿同山岳永 Longevity as eternal as the mountains

The tall bottle of elongated oval form with a tall cylindrical neck and a recessed foot of red glass.

The crane, peach tree and lingzhi are all symbols of longevity while the bat stands for blessing. The theme of the bottle is, therefore, to wish its owner a long life and good fortune.
