A red overlay glass snuff bottle with dragons

1750 – 1820
Height: 6.4 cm.

Ruby-red glass on a dense snowflake ground carved with a five-claw dragon chasing a flaming pearl while another dragon is emerging from scrolling waves, the bottle of globular form with a recessed foot and a broad neck and mouth.

Bats and clouds form the rebus "May you have good fortune or luck." See Terese Tse Bartholomew, Hidden Meaning in Chinese Art (San Francisco: 2006), no. 1.1.3.
