Probably from the Imperial Guangzhou Workshops, Qianlong mark and period, 乾隆 1736–1795
Polychrome enamels on copper, of oblong form with a narrow neck finished by a gilt ring and a small recessed gilt foot enameled with a Qianlong nian zhi (made during the Qianlong period) four-character mark, the body decorated with stylized peonies and leaves on a yellow ground.
In China, the blossoming peony is often associated with prosperity. Compare to an almost identical bottle with a stylized petal motif on the foot instead of the Qianlong mark in Hugh Moss, Victor Graham and Ka Bo Tsang, The Art of the Chinese Snuff Bottle: The J & J Collection, 2 volumes (New York: 1993), vol. I, cat. no. 181.
