Jingdezhen Imperial Kilns 景德镇官窑, Jiaqing mark and period, 嘉慶 1796–1820
Porcelain with colored enamels in the Famille Rose palette, the bottle of triangular form with moulded mock-mask ring-handles on each shoulder, a flaring neck with gilt mouth and a flat base with a Jiaqing nian zhi (made during the Jiaqing period) four-character mark in iron-red, decorated on each side with children playing within panels on an imperial yellow ground with scrolling peonies and foliage.
Children playing is a popular subject during the Ming and Qing dynasties and refers to the desire for many sons who will be able to pass the civil service examinations and, by becoming officials, bring honor to their family.
