Beijing Palace Workshops, Qianlong to Jiaqing period, 乾隆-嘉庆 1750–1800
Stained ivory, of egg form with a short cylindrical neck and tall recessed foot both carved with a band of lappets, the body deeply and finely carved with women and children in pavilions, birds, a cricket, a frog, bamboo, banana leaves and rockwork, the background with overlapping scrolling waves; matching stopper en suite.
This bottle belongs to a group of ivory bottles similar in style and in carving produced in the Beijing Palace Workshops, some bearing Qianlong marks and other Jiaqing marks on the base. According to Robert Kleiner, it is likely that the bottles "were made by the same two or three artists between approximately 1790–1800."
